Road trip and fortified churches in Transylvania

August 2018

It's strange that over the past years I’ve been rather writing about faraway places, ignoring the very place I come from. This summer I have decided to go home for a couple of days and do a road trip around the fortified churches and villages in Transylvania. There are many idyllic places, but due to time constraints, I had to content myself only with Prejmer, Viscri and Saschiz, all part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Despite many imperfections such as the poor state of the roads or the post-apocalyptic industrial suburbias encircling some of the cities that we have crossed on our way, these tiny treasures are a feast for the soul and mind of the valiant traveler who bothers to drop by.
